Move, First.

Here’s just a quick post for you. See it as a gentle reminder, a kick in the pants, a bolt of lightning to get you moving…take it as you will.

Motivation proceeds, not precedes, action.

If you are waiting to take action until you are motivated, you gonna be waitin’ for a while. Your body does have natural ebbs and flows of dopamine (the neurotransmitter responsible for motivation) which will give moments of feeling motivated on its own. However, relying on that ebb and flow to happen often leaves you to the mercy of your current circumstances…less than ideal, right?

Best way to overcome a lack of motivation…is to move. Act. When it feels hard, when you don’t want to. Eventually, sometimes even after just a few minutes, that movement causes a release of dopamine. It’s a small but powerful signal to your mind that you’re going in the right direction, which makes you want to continue.

If you want to take it a step further and test out this little theory…rather than put off the hardest daily tasks, try tackling the thing you’re most intimidated by first, when your mind and body are fresh. Once it’s accomplished, everything following should feel relatively easier, right? What a great way to start the day.

Enough reading – now go do the thing.
